When I started The Posh Shop Co, the business was so entirely different than anything else I had ever done. I was definitely excited but I also was very very overwhelmed and felt very very alone. By chance (and when I say by chance I mean when you deep dive into Insta and get suggested a million people to follow based on other follows), when searching Instagram I found this brand that had the cutest Detroit products for women and started following her. I learned that she had a second Instagram devoted entirely to coaching women product based business owners to grow their own businesses. I followed in the background at first but over time started commenting, participating, you know, being social?! Then one day, on her business coaching page, she announced entry into a program she was running. I signed up and went through the entire program...I made business friends for life, I learned how to grow my own business at an imperative time, and I learned about the importance of believing in yourself but also having a 'tribe' of women that you can relate to, vent to, and count on.

Let me introduce you all to Amanda Adamcheck. Amanda is another phenomenal woman that is doing literally all of the things. She is the owner of Detroit-based Kiloh + Co., an apparel brand specializing in Detroit/Michigan apparel but also in items for a Girl with a Dream which is an amazing, empowering collection of her company. Amanda coaches women in business by serving as a mentor. She is great at helping people in product-based businesses find their niche, develop their brand, and grow their social. Above all, she connects you to similar business women. Amanda also hosts the A Girl with a Dream podcast which also focuses on tips and tricks in growing your product-based biz. She recently had her first baby and is killing the game as an entrepreneur and mother.

Why Did You Decide To Start Your Business?

I was having so much fun "crafting" for my friends weddings that I decided why not open an Etsy shop and sell my items! That's what started my Etsy business! For my apparel brand, that all got started because I had season tickets to the (Detroit) Tigers and couldn't find anything cute that I loved, so I just created a tee myself and it took off from there.

What Does Your Typical Day Look Like?

I have a slow morning (not a fan of getting up early), start work around 9-10am. I either head into my warehouse or work from the couch at home depending on the day. I usually work best in larger chunks so I try to work for 6 hours or so then break for a bit around early evening and usually will do some light computer work in the evenings if I'm feeling creative.

Who Are Some Women That Inspire You? (Globally and Locally)

Sara Blakely - she's so real, so herself, and has accomplished SO much with her brand.

Meagan Ward - founder of Femology. She's someone I've always looked up to as a leader, distrupter, and business woman.

Chalene Johnson - she's #goals for me. She's a ball of energy, leads by example and is a marketing guru!

Jordan Lee Dooley - she has accomplished so much in a short amount of time and is a great story teller.

What Was One Huge Business Flop or Problem That You Had to Endure and How Did You Handle That?

Oh man, I've had so many! haha! I one time ordered the completely wrong color sweatshirt. I thought it was green but it ended up being brown! I had to get creative and re-name it "campfire" to help sell the color better as it wasn't my normal colors. It was one of those laughable moments I look back on and a great learning experience.

What Accomplishment Are You Most Proud Of?

It's not really one specific thing. I'm not very externally motivated. I'm just proud I didn't settle...didn't let fear hold me back. I'm so glad I had the encourage to start something and leave the "safe" option of Corporate America.

What Do You Do For Self Care?

I read, I take walks, I listen to a sleep meditation every night, and yoga.

What Jobs Did You Work Before You Created Your Business? Tell Us Your Journey.

I climbed the corporate marketing ladder! I started out in market research after college and then went into digital analytics. I actually really loved working with data and all things marketing, but wasn't a fan of not having time-freedom of a job. Before my professional career, I worked in high school and college at Target and LOVED it. Retail was always a fun passion of mine, so I'm not surprised I ended up doing something somewhat in that realm.
